Omokdae

It's beautiful both during the day and at night. During the day, you can enjoy the view of the Hanok village roofs, while at night, you can admire the city lights from Omokdae. The area is illuminated with floodlights, creating a charming atmosphere. It's a great spot for a short hike as well.

Omokdae is a hill located in Jeonju Hanok village. It is situated about 500 meters southeast of Gyeonggijeon Shrine. The summit of the hill is relatively flat, offering views of the Jeonjucheon Stream and the nearby Jeonju Hanok Village.

The top of Omokdae is historically significant as the place where General Yi Seong-gye (李成桂, 1335–1408), who later became the founder of the Joseon Dynasty, held a victory celebration in 1380. After defeating Japanese pirates in the Battle of Hwangsan in Namwon, General Yi stopped in Jeonju, where members of the Jeonju Yi clan lived, and celebrated his victory.

During the celebration, Yi Seong-gye is said to have sung the Song of the Great Wind, originally associated with Emperor Gaozu of Han in China. Through this symbolic gesture, he reportedly revealed his ambition to seize power and establish a new dynasty through a change of ruling power.

Today, Omokdae is not only an important historical site but also a popular place to enjoy panoramic views of Jeonju Hanok Village and experience the history connected to the founding of the Joseon Dynasty.
